Meant for Something More
Harris Creek’s “Our Turn” is more than just a sermon series that stretched from October to November. It is a campaign to rally behind for the next two years. It is a challenge to regularly remind us of our commitment to seeing God at work through the ministries of a local church. We will continue sharing testimonies and inspirational stories throughout this unique expression of our church’s history, and we acknowledge that all recognition is not to us but to His name. Evan and Melanie Martin share their reaction and a neat story about how they are responding to the cause.
ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT THE “OUR TURN” CAMPAIGN?
We are definitely excited to be a part of this new phase of “life” for Harris Creek! It’s something that’s been such a need for a long time. We started at Harris Creek about 5 years ago, so we have seen first hand the intensely fast growth and the challenges that accompanied that. We were at the Sunwest campus for 4 of the last 5 years, so even though we are official ‘Downtowners’ now, we do feel connected and invested in Harris Creek’s Sunwest campus, and would love to see it become the place God means for it to be. We see this campaign as a united effort for the overall ministry efforts of our church family, and we are ready to participate.
NOW THAT WE HAD COMMITMENT SUNDAY (NOV 22) AND A BIG GIVE MOMENT (DEC 6), DID YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE WHEN GOD WAS LEADING YOU TO PARTICIPATE FINANCIALLY?
Yes, in the last few months, we determined that we had a sum of money saved up that we didn’t know what to do with, and for a while we were thinking of buying a new car, but it just didn’t feel right. We had a growing sense that this money was meant for something more–something more than a possession, something more than our family.
In fact, we were talking about this saved up money once more the night before the “Our Turn” campaign was announced, but again, couldn’t decide what to do with it. Looks like our indecision was a matter of holy discontent: God’s been preparing our hearts to give generously in this season! So cool how He works out His plans! We will continue to pray intentionally about how we can be sacrificial givers for this cause. We look forward to seeing God continue His work and make His name known again to us and in our city.
Lord, I have heard of your fame;
I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord.
Repeat them in our day,
in our time make them known
— Habakkuk 3:2 —
You may still make a commitment to “Our Turn” and we would love to hear about how you are experiencing God’s not-so-subtle nudges in your response to this opportunity.
