How I Got Here
Do you ever feel like you’re driving on auto-pilot—oblivious of signs and landmarks—and you end up someplace wondering, How did I get here? I confess I have, and sometimes I feel like this is how we live life. Going through the motions—just getting to our destination without thinking about the route that got us there.
Truth is, God has guided each of our paths to Harris Creek. We all arrived via different routes, and experiences along the way shaped who we are today. I’ll share a bit of my journey here, and I look forward to hearing about yours.
Born and raised in Waco, my blood runs green. I received both my undergraduate and Master of Social Work degrees from Baylor. I’ve been married for five wonderful years to Joel Peel, owner of Hole in the Roof Marketing. After struggling with infertility for two years, God blessed us with a beautiful baby girl, Hannah Kathryn, who is almost four months old.
Almost [four] years ago, Joel and I visited Harris Creek, and it’s felt like home ever since. Although I trusted Christ at a young age, two years ago on Easter Sunday I was baptized right here at Harris Creek. Talk about nervous! But I knew it was the right thing to do. I’m glad Joel encouraged me to take this step of faith and obedience.
Joining the staff of Harris Creek as [Missions Pastor] is an exciting new leg of my journey. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been passionate about caring for the under-privileged. My grandma used to say, “It’s just how God made you sweetie.” Whether it’s families living in poverty or the elderly. or those who struggle with physical or mental health needs, each and every one is made in God’s image and they deserve our love. We don’t need to travel to a third-world country to be God’s hands and feet in the lives of hurting people. Ministry opportunities abound right here in Waco.
Although none of us in the Harris Creek community has a perfect life, we’ve all been abundantly blessed. I look forward to serving alongside you—working together to bless others in the Waco community, demonstrating Christ’s love in practical and compassionate ways. I know we can make a difference!
And I look forward to hearing about your journey to Harris Creek and how God shaped you along the way. What are you passionate about?
