She Shall Not Be Moved
A few weeks ago, my family celebrated the life of our youngest son. It was the anniversary of the day our lives changed forever. We celebrate on this day because he is still with us. God spared his life! It is, however, a different life than the one he had and it is definitely not the life we had dreamed for him, but it is life.
On this day, every year now, we are faced with a decision. Do we let our minds go to the what ifs, the if onlys, or the hundreds of other possibilities for the way that day could have occurred, OR do we let our minds dwell on the joys that we currently have and those we can look forward to in eternity. It’s a hard decision. My flesh wants to reside in the deep parts of my mind that still harbor doubts and fears. That’s actually a very scary place to go. It is where the enemy wishes to take me. There is no joy there, only despair. Instead we choose to consider what we have, the joys of today and beyond. We choose to celebrate the life that we have with our son.
This year, a friend gave me a beautiful mug and a beautiful card with these words on it. “God is within her and she shall not be moved”, Psalm 46:5. This psalm begins with, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear.” GOD IS within me. GOD IS my refuge and strength. GOD IS an ever present help. This is great news! This is a balm to my soul. When the fears and doubts come to mind, and they most assuredly will, I know I will not be shaken. My God is my refuge and strength and He is present with me. I am not alone. I do not have to figure out how I’m going to manage in this life because my God will not leave me.
So the decision is made. It’s a no brainer. I will not despair. I will trust in my God who is ever present and who is within me. He is my refuge and my strength. I will not be shaken. We will celebrate life, this life on this earth and the life that will come in eternity.
Is there a choice that you need to make in your life? Do you need to choose between anger or forgiveness? Do you need to trust God in your circumstances? Do you need to grasp hold of the truth that God is within you and you can stand firm in this season of life? Make the right choice. Choose God’s provision of strength and peace. You will never be sorry you did.
