Lent Day 40 Reflection

As we wrap up this season of Lent, I believe it is important for us to take a look back at everything God has done in the life of our church and our lives individually during the past forty days. As we approach Easter Sunday, we do so with hearts full of expectation for what is to come at Harris Creek and in our cities around us. The past forty days of praying for the lost, broken, young, old and everyone in between have left us anxiously anticipating all that God is going to do in the lives of those we’ve been praying for.

I want to challenge you to keep praying for our city. We are called to pray without ceasing. Just imagine what would happen in our communities if we labored in prayer 365 days a year! Hang on to this book. Keep praying for the different people groups listed at the bottom. Keep a journal of everything God does over the next few months. Talk about it with your Life Groups. Keep praying for God to do abundantly more than we could ever imagine in the life of our church and our city!

Today at the bottom of the page it asks us to pray for the coming generation of believers (specifically children). As you pray for them, keep in mind that these children, teenagers, college students, and young adults are not the future of the church; they are the church! For our church to truly seek the welfare of the city the way we have been called to, we’ve got to remember that we’re all in this together and it’s something that applies to everybody. Whether you’re a six year old on a soccer team or a single mom or a grandparent, you’re called to be a light in the dark world and to seek the welfare of the city where you’ve been called and to take the Gospel to those in need.

I hope and pray that the last forty days have stretched, challenged, and encouraged you the way they have me. Keep the conversation alive and keep on praying for our community every single day!

Jon Green is the College Minister at Harris Creek. Today he had Mexican food for all three meals and he isn’t even ashamed of it.
